Latest Spurs news: Tottenham to test Jan Vertonghen in the coming days

Tottenham provided an update on Jan Vertonghen’s recovery from a nasty head injury against Ajax.

The defender was hurt in a clash with Toby Alderweireld and Ajax keeper Andre Onana. Vertonghen was bleeding from a cut on his nose as the Spurs medical team treated him on the pitch.

A release from the club added that Vertonghen underwent further assessment on Wednesday and the player will be tested further in the days to come.

The player is also set to visit a neurologist and has had no ill-effects, according to the release.

It was a sickening blow that Vertonghen suffered against the Dutch giants, and after some lengthy treatment, he was allowed to return to the pitch.

The release adds that Vertonghen did not suffer loss of consciousness after the clash, and “answered all questions correctly and lucidly, deeming him fit to return to the field of play.”

However, the Belgian had to be withdrawn just seconds later and had to be helped off the pitch.

The 32-year-old has been one of our most consistent players this season, and we need him for the remainder of the campaign.

However, Spurs should not rush him back and hopefully, further tests will reveal that the Belgian doesn’t have any further problems and can play for the team soon.
