Latest Spurs news: Jan Vertonghen a doubt for Champions League final after injury scare

The Guardian reports that Jan Vertonghen will miss our final Premier League game of the season and is a doubt for the Champions League final too.

The report claims that Vertonghen left the arena with the help of crutches and a protective boot on his right foot.

It isn’t clear how the defender picked up the injury but was part of the wild celebrations that took place after Lucas Moura scored an incredible hat-trick to eliminate Ajax.

Vertonghen had just returned from an injury

The former Ajax defender was playing with a face mask after recovering from a sickening head clash in the first leg of the Champions League semi.

The report adds that the club will have to wait to learn the extent of the damage, and losing Vertonghen would be a blow to Spurs.

The 32-year-old is one of the best in the world and his absence from the side could see Davinson Sanchez start alongside Toby Alderweireld in the Champions League final on 1 June.

Hopefully, the cast was just a precautionary step taken by the medical staff. Vertonghen has three weeks to make a recovery before the biggest game under Mauricio Pochettino’s tenure.
