Spurs transfer news: Mauricio Pochettino eyes Eric Bailly as Toby Alderweireld replacement
The report adds that the 25-year-old centre-back has been told that he can leave Old Trafford after a difficult campaign.
Bailly only played 12 Premier League games this season and has had his injury problems. The defender also had problems with Jose Mourinho, and the Red Devils replaced the Portuguese manager with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer midway through the season.
One defender to replace another at Spurs?
The former Ajax defender has a £25m release clause in his contract, and the report adds that Alderweireld is expected to leave in the summer. Manchester United are interested in the Belgian centre-back and could use Bailly in a deal, according to the report.
Alderweireld is still one of the best defenders in the world and replacing him with Bailly might not be seen as an upgrade.
The Ivorian wasn’t in great form this season but most of the United players have been poor under Mourinho and Solskjaer.
