Spurs transfer news: Alderweireld plans to stay at Tottenham next season

Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld has claimed he is remaining at Tottenham for the upcoming season.

The Evening Standard reports that the 30-year-old is out of a contract next season and can leave in the summer for £25million due to a clause in his current deal.

The report adds that the Belgian was expected to leave the club in the previous summer window, however, Alderweireld has been a key player for us this season and has been one of the players not to have been out with a serious injury.

The Belgian was asked about his future and claimed that the only thing on his mind is Tottenham (h/t Evening Standard):

“I’m going to say the same thing that I’ve been saying for the past couple of years.

“The only focus is Spurs, because of this focus I think I had a good season as well. I have one year left on my contract, so in my head, I will play for Spurs next season.”

Spurs need to keep Toby

The Belgian defender is one of the best in the world and finding a replacement for him would not be easy.

Alderweireld has been a consistent performer in the campaign, and he will be one of our most important players in the Champions League final.

Spurs face Liverpool at the Wanda Metropolitano on June 1, and we have to keep the Reds’ attack in check. Alderweireld will have his hands full when going up against Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Spurs should have Harry Kane back too, and it is all set to be an incredible game in Madrid between two great teams.
