Spurs transfer news: Tottenham cool their interest in Barcelona star Andre Gomes
The Daily Mail reports that Tottenham are uninterested in signing Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes. The Portuguese midfielder joined Everton on loan last season and was one of their most impressive performers.
Gomes flourished in the second half of the campaign under Marco Silva but the report claims that Tottenham backing out will allow West Ham and Everton to battle for his signature.
West Ham have already bid £18million for the 25-year-old and the report claims that Barcelona are looking at £30m for the former Valencia midfielder.
The report adds that Gomes seems set for a Premier League switch while Tottenham are now interested in James Maddison of Leicester City.
The English midfielder had a wonderful season for the Foxes and his creativity will be of good use in this Tottenham team.
Gomes had been linked with Spurs since January 2018 (h/t Telegraph) and it will be interesting to see who we move for in the summer window.
Tottenham have to spend this summer
Mauricio Pochettino has done a wonderful job with limited resources at the club. The Argentine has not bought a player in two transfer windows, and that has to change in the summer. Gomes and Maddison aren’t the same kind of players and we need someone to add more steel to the midfield.
