Spurs transfer news: Tottenham to back Mauricio Pochettino in the summer window

The Mirror reports that Tottenham will back Mauricio Pochettino in the transfer market after our Champions League heartbreak.

Liverpool beat us in the final 2-0 and Pochettino highlighted the lack of spending by the team despite reaching the final (h/t Mirror):

“It would have been something that would have surprised people because in the last five years Tottenham prioritised their stadium and spent zero on transfers. We’re not the smartest in the class, but not the stupidest either.”

The report claims that Daniel Levy wants to show Pochettino that the club can match the Argentine’s ambitions.

The chairman knows that Pochettino left Southampton when the Saints could not guarantee him that they would keep their top players (h/t Mirror).

Tottenham making their move in the summer window

The report adds that Pochettino wants to revamp his side and Tottenham are interested in four players.

Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham and Celta Vigo attacker Maxi Gomez interest Spurs and the report claims that Tottenham have also seen bids rejected for Giovani lo Celso of Real Betis and Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele.

There wasn’t much between Liverpool and Tottenham in the final but the Reds took their chances. However, Liverpool spent a lot in the summer and added three quality players to their side while they got a great deal for Xherdan Shaqiri.

Alisson was one of the stars in the final as he blocked everything we threw at him, and the Brazilian was signed in the summer by Liverpool.

Tottenham need to take the next step and that means spending in the summer and strengthening the side.

Ditching a corporate job to follow a dream isn’t easy, but when football comes calling, who can say no? Been following the beautiful game since 1998.

Van de Beek scored some crucial goals for the Dutch giants, such as the winner against Tottenham in the first leg of the semi-final.

The expert added that the midfielder has been scouted by many Premier League clubs including Tottenham (h/t Express):

“I’ve seen scouts from Tottenham, Man Utd, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle all at the Amsterdam ArenA looking at him.”

Van Der Kraan added that the Ajax star was watched several times, and would be the ideal back-up for Premier League teams.

“He’s an ideal player for the Premier League, he’s got the skills like most Ajax players, he’s got a big tank, he can run all day.

“But all these clubs have a priority list and van de Beek seems the perfect back-up for the big clubs.”

Van de Beek wants Premier League action

Van der Kraan claimed that the midfielder has the best chance of sealing a move from Ajax, and believed the Premier League might interest him:

“I think he’s keen for the Premier League, more than the German or Italian leagues.”

The youngster claimed that he had been linked with Tottenham in the past and that he was taking all of this in his stride (h/t Football.london):

“No, you have just got to ignore that and take it all in your stride. As a 17 year-old boy I’d started five games for Coventry and saw on my phone that I was being linked with Tottenham and Liverpool.

“With transfer talk you need to take it as a compliment that people are even talking about you, it won’t distract me.”

Maddison is participating in the U21 Euros and is one of the stars to keep an eye on.

Midfielder in no rush to leave Leicester

Jacob Steinberg of the Guardian tweeted regarding Maddison a few days ago and claimed that the English star is in no rush to leave.

Spurs transfer news: Journalist claims Christian Eriksen has rejected a move to Manchester United

Journalist Tom McDermott (h/t Sun) reports that Tottenham star Christian Eriksen has rejected a move to Manchester United.

The Danish international is out of a contract at the end of next season, and recently told Ekstra Bladet that he wants a new challenge (h/t Sun):

“I feel like I am in a place in my career where I might want to try something new. I have the wildest and deepest respect for everything that has happened at Tottenham.”

Christian Eriksen (C) celebrates with Fernando Llorente and Dele Alli

Eriksen is one our best players but prefers a move to Spain, according to McDermott’s tweet (h/t Sun):

“Told that #MUFC did ask about Christian Eriksen but it was a “no” from the Dane and his team. Spain is his first choice, but Solskjaer’s problem is attracting players.”

The Dane helped us reach the Champions League final last season, but we ended up on the losing side.

La Liga giants interested in Eriksen

The Sun adds that Barcelona and Real Madrid are interested in signing the Danish midfielder, however, Paul Pogba could throw a spanner in the works.

Marca (h/t Football.london) reports that Zinedine Zidane wants to sign the French midfielder from Manchester United.

The report claims that the Real Madrid manager is uninterested in signing Eriksen or any other midfielder as he sets his sights on Pogba.

This could be even better news for us as Eriksen could remain at Tottenham. Daniel Levy would have to work his magic and get the Dane to sign a new deal as losing the Dane for free would be a major mistake.

This would be great news for Leeds as the Championship club will receive “10 per cent of any profit on top of the £1m” that he was bought for, according to the report.

The English left-back became our first-choice in the second half of the previous campaign, however, the Sun claims that Mauricio Pochettino is open to replacing Rose.

The left-back hasn’t always been consistent in the past two years, but still gave it his all for the club.

Pochettino targeting a younger star

The Sun claims that Pochettino wants to sign Ryan Sessegnon of Fulham as a long-term replacement for Rose.

The 19-year-old was relegated from the Premier League after just one season with the Cottagers and Spurs could pay £35million for the talented youngster.

Getting £30m for Rose would be an excellent deal given that he turns 29 soon.
