Spurs transfer news: Tottenham to battle Manchester United for Bruno Fernandes
Portuguese reports (h/t Football.london) claim that Tottenham will rival Manchester United for the signing of Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes.
The 24-year-old had an excellent campaign where he bagged 28 goals in three competitions for Lisbon. The Portuguese midfielder scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists in the league campaign as Lisbon came third.
The 24-year-old is a major target for Manchester United, according to the report, however, Tottenham are looking for a Christian Eriksen replacement.
The report adds that Real Betis’ Giovani Lo Celso is another player that Spurs have looked at, and the Argentine will be participating in this summer’s Copa America.
Fernandes doing his bit for club and country
Although Sporting could not lift the Portuguese title, Fernandes’ form has seen him break into the national side.
The 24-year-old played the entire Nations League clash against Switzerland as Portugal reached the final via a 3-1 win.
The Sporting star mostly plays as a central midfielder though he started some games on the left side of the attack. He can also do a job in a deeper role.
Fernandes’ versatility could be used well by Mauricio Pochettino as we look to finally spend some money in the transfer window.
