Spurs transfer news: Tottenham interested in Marseille defender Hiroki Sakai
Sky Sports claims that Tottenham are interested in Marseille right-back Hiroki Sakai. The 29-year-old played 32 games for the Ligue 1 side last season and represented Japan in the World Cup and the Asian Cup.
The defender is capable of playing as a centre-back or in the attack, and has Bundesliga experience with Hannover.
The report adds that although the Japanese defender fits the profile that Mauricio Pochettino is looking for, Spurs are concerned about his age.
Tottenham want to sign young players, preferably those who are below 23, according to the report.

The report adds that Pochettino wants to sign better full-backs, and Spurs will consider offers for Serge Aurier and Kieran Trippier.
Aurier struggled with injury last season while Trippier was in poor form for almost the entire campaign.
The report claims that should we not be able to sign our preferred right-backs, Sakai would become a serious target at the end of the window.
Tottenham haven’t signed any players in two transfer windows, and it will be interesting to see what our moves are in the summer.

Sakai is an experienced defender and could provide great cover to our first-choice right-back. Hopefully, we make some quality signings and strengthen the team for the next campaign.
