Spurs transfer news: Tottenham ready to bid £40m for Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake

The Sun reports that Tottenham are ready to submit a £40m bid for Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake.

The Dutch centre-back impressed at Bournemouth last season under Eddie Howe and has improved since leaving Chelsea for around £20m, according to the report.

The 24-year-old joined the Cherries initially on loan and now is a part of the Dutch national side.

The report adds that Chelsea want to sign Ake back but their looming transfer ban is a problem.

Further, Tottenham are favourites to sign the Dutch defender, and the report claims that Spurs are keeping track of a couple of other Bournemouth players.

David Brooks impressed for the Cherries this season while Callum Wilson is the other player who is being linked with us.

A quality centre-back needed at Tottenham?

The report adds that Toby Alderweireld’s future is in doubt as Manchester United could trigger his £25m release clause.

Losing the Belgian would be tough on a team that didn’t spend in the previous two transfer windows.

Spurs have Davinson Sanchez to call upon but we still would need one more senior centre-back should Alderweireld leave.

Ake would be a smart signing given that he has the potential to improve and a move to Tottenham would be an upgrade for the player when compared to Bournemouth.

Latest Spurs news: Bielsa hints at Clarke featuring for Leeds despite not making a league appearance

Jack Clarke’s loan spell at Leeds hasn’t gone too well this season. The Englishman joined Tottenham in the summer window but was loaned back to his former club.

The 18-year-old broke into Marcelo Bielsa’s team last season and was expected to feature in the starting XIs.

However, the Englishman is yet to feature in a Championship game this season, however, the Argentine assured that the winger will get games (h/t Express):

“For me he’s an important player who has very good individual skills, one vs one.

“There are reasons enough to say nothing is special about why he was not in the 18 players in the last two games.

“We have a lot of matches in the month of August.”

Clarke set for more cup games

The youngster has featured in one Carabao Cup fixture for Leeds and Bielsa confirmed that Clarke will be getting more minutes in midweek:

“Very probably the next game on Tuesday a lot of players who didn’t play before will be in the squad.

“In this moment I am focusing on three wingers. They are putting in good performances, but Clarke will be in or be a substitute of one of them.”

Clarke needs more starts to continue his development and that was one reason he was sent back to Leeds this summer.

The 18-year-old made a handful of starts under Bielsa in the previous campaign as Leeds missed out on Premier League promotion.

Clarke has to cement his place in the Leeds XI before thinking of achieving the same at Spurs. The 18-year-old has great potential but that will only be a footnote if he doesn’t play regularly this season.

Spurs transfer news: Eriksen could leave Tottenham for £50million this summer

The Daily Mail reports that Mauricio Pochettino and Daniel Levy have agreed to a compromise and will allow Christian Eriksen to leave if a substantial bid is submitted.

Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko

The European transfer window ends on 2 September and Spurs can sell to foreign clubs but cannot add to their squad.

Pochettino admitted that it is a difficult situation regarding Eriksen and the club will consider the sale of the Dane should a £50million bid come in the final days of the window (h/t Daily Mail).

Not letting Eriksen leave on a free

Tottenham would lose out on a substantial sum if Eriksen leaves on a free at the end of this season.

The Dane has featured in both of our games this season and was the catalyst in the 3-1 win over Aston Villa.

The report adds that Daniel Levy wants to make a tidy sum by selling Eriksen now while Pochettino believes the Dane’s presence makes the team better.

There has been a lot of interest in the 27-year-old with Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and Juventus all keen on the midfielde (h/t Daily Mail).

Spurs face Newcastle on Sunday and Eriksen should start for us as we look to continue our unbeaten start.

Football.london reports that Marcus Edwards’ future at Tottenham is all over, with the youngster set to join Udinese.

The 20-year-old spent last season on loan at Excelsior Rotterdam but could not save them from getting relegated.

It has been a frustrating couple of years for Edwards due to injuries and poor performances away on loan.

The report adds that the Englishman was training at Brentford last month in hopes of signing for the Championship club, but could not finalise a deal. The 20-year-old is a free agent at the end of this season and seems set for a new challenge in the Serie A.

Pochettino had high expectations from Edwards

The youngster made a bright debut for the Spurs first-team in a League Cup game against Gillingham at White Hart Lane.

However, injuries affected his first season at Tottenham, where he could not play more games.

Spurs transfer news: Milan could move for Aurier once they sell Conti

Calciomercato claims that Tottenham’s Serge Aurier has been linked with a move to AC Milan for the past two weeks.

The Ivorian defender hasn’t started any of our Premier League games this season, with Kyle Walker-Peters getting the nod in both the games.

The 26-year-old has also struggled with injuries since his move from Paris Saint-Germain, and the report claims that the Ivorian isn’t a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.

Le10 Sport (h/t Calciomercato) adds that a move to Milan could be on but the Italians need to sell Andrea Conti. The defender is being linked with Werder Bremen and Serie A rivals Parma, according to the report.

Conti has struggled for regular starts at the San Siro and made 12 appearances in the Serie A last term.

Pochettino taking a risk with this move

Tottenham have already sold Kieran Trippier in the summer and that leaves us with only Walker-Peters and Aurier as the recognised senior right-backs.

Aurier leaving would reduce our options in the position but Juan Foyth has some experience of playing as a right-back.

Letting Aurier go is a major risk being taken by Pochettino, and Spurs have been active in offloading deadwood in the summer.

Vincent Janssen and Georges-Kevin Nkoudou departed permanently, and it will be interesting to see if Aurier follows them before the close of the transfer window.
