Spurs transfer news: Tottenham want Marco Asensio from Real Madrid for Christian Eriksen

The Sun reports that Tottenham want Spanish star Marco Asensio from Real Madrid in a swap deal for Christian Eriksen.

The outlet had earlier reported that Madrid were willing to spend £45million and send Dani Ceballos for the Danish superstar.

However, the report claims that Tottenham want a more experienced campaigner and could be open to signing Asensio even if he comes on an initial loan deal.

The Spanish star can play in the midfield and in the attack but did not have a great season for Los Galacticos last season.

Ceballos, for his part, fell down the pecking order once Zinedine Zidane returned, and is now participating in the U21 Euros.

The report adds that Zidane does not want to let Asensio leave, and should Madrid not want to part with the Spaniard, Eriksen’s chances of moving to the La Liga giants could be scuppered.

The Danish midfielder has just one year left on his current contract and hinted that he wants to take up a new challenge.

Eriksen added that he would like to join Madrid, however, he also stated that he could remain at Spurs if a deal was not finalised (h/t Sun).

Asensio in exchange would be great for Spurs

The Madrid star would be a better option in the deal when compared to Ceballos, should we sell Eriksen.

The 23-year-old is the complete package when it comes to playing in the attacking third, and would link up well with Harry Kane, Lucas Moura and Son Heung-min.

Ceballos has potential but he is a risky signing and if we are to lose Eriksen, we need to replace him with a world-class player.

Keeping Eriksen would be great, however, he could leave on a free at the end of next season if a new contract is not negotiated by Spurs.
