Latest Spurs news: Ndombele opens up about comparisons with Pogba and Essien

Tanguy Ndombele claimed that he isn’t the new Paul Pogba or Michael Essien after signing for Tottenham.

The Lyon midfielder was excellent for the Ligue 1 side last season, and the Manchester Evening News reports that we signed him for a club-record fee.

The 22-year-old has been compared to Manchester United’s Pogba by some pundits, however, the Frenchman told L’Equipe he will try to do things his own way (h/t Manchester United News):

“I have heard it all. I am here to make my own path.

“Paul has made his own in England. I am Tanguy: not the new (Michael) Essien; not the new Pogba.”

Ndombele maintained he isn’t far away from France teammates N’Golo Kante and Pogba, however, he added that they are ahead of him due to their exploits with France:

“I am not going to say that I am far away, but (N’Golo Kante and Pogba) are ahead of me. There is work to do, I need to continue to hustle.

“They became world champions, so automatically they are ahead of me. They have more experience than me too. I see it in training during sequences.”

The Frenchman added that he always wants to improve and will continue to learn in the coming years.

Hard work pays off for Ndombele

The midfielder has the potential to be a special player and is a regular for the national side.

Ndombele’s career has taken off in recent years, and he was playing for Amiens in Ligue 2 recently.

The 22-year-old then joined Lyon, where he proved his ability over two seasons, and he should be a hit with Spurs once the new season starts.
