Latest Spurs news: Dembele has no regrets over leaving Tottenham

Mousa Dembele left Tottenham to join Guangzhou R&F in January and missed out on the Champions League final against Liverpool.

The Belgian was one of the best midfielders during his time in the Premier League but injuries and the physical nature of the game caught up with him.

Dembele could have left on a free at the end of the previous season, but joined the Chinese side. However, the midfielder revealed that some of his teammates teased him regarding Tottenham’s European run.

That didn’t faze Dembele too much and the Belgian doesn’t regret his decision to leave Spurs (h/t BBC):

“When I came to the club they were all laughing.

“But people who know me know I never regret my choices. It’s a shame for me but I didn’t regret it for one second.”

Dembele did meet with some of the Tottenham players during their trip to Shanghai for pre-season, and the Belgian claimed he was happy that his former side reached the final:

“I was very happy for Tottenham because they deserved it and no-one works harder than them.

“As players they are very good guys so you want them to succeed.”

Dembele missed in the final

The Belgian could have been a factor in the final against the Reds but we had our chances to win the title.

Spurs have brought in a Dembele replacement this summer, and it will be interesting to see how Tanguy Ndombele does once the season starts.

The Frenchman has been decent in pre-season so far but facing Premier League teams regularly is a huge test for the former Lyon man.

Dembele was one of our best purchases in the Premier League era and hopefully, Ndombele outshines the Belgian in the coming seasons.
