Spurs transfer news: Tottenham planning to move for Lo Celso or Fernandes as they could lose Eriksen

The Evening Standard reports that Tottenham are set to sign a Christian Eriksen alternative should they lose the Dane after the English transfer window closes.

The English window closes at 5 PM next Thursday and Premier League clubs cannot buy players from other clubs then.

However, the transfer windows for other leagues will remain open beyond next Thursday, and Spanish clubs can sign players till 31 August.

Eriksen is out of a contract at the end of next season and has spoken about taking up a new challenge too.

The Dane could leave on a free transfer at the end of the upcoming campaign, which would hurt Tottenham financially as we would miss out on a transfer fee.

Spurs need to push if they want to sign either star

Giovani Lo Celso was one of the stars in La Liga last season while Bruno Fernandes scored goals for fun at Sporting Lisbon.

The report claims that Spurs will not sign both players but only one as a long-term replacement to Eriksen.

Tottenham are still in talks with Real Betis over signing Lo Celso, while they sent a delegation to negotiate with Sporting regarding Fernandes (h/t Evening Standard).

Either player would be great at Tottenham but Spurs do not have a lot of time to bring their third summer signing in.

Daniel Levy has thrashed some lastminute deals in the past, and it seems likely that a similar scenario will develop in the coming days.
