Transfer blow for Tottenham as Italian journalist confirms Portuguese star’s move to PL rivals

Spurs transfer news: Schira claims Fernandes to Man United is a done deal

Gazzetta dello Sport’s Nico Schira claims that Bruno Fernandes is heading to Manchester United.

The Portugal international had a great season with Sporting Lisbon and helped the national team win the UEFA Nations League.

The Express claims that Tottenham have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old, and held talks with Sporting about signing Fernandes.

However, the reporter tweeted that a deal has been completed with the Red Devils and Fernandes will head off to Old Trafford after the Portugal Super Cup on Sunday (h/t Express):

“All confirmed! After Portugal Super Cup #BrunoFernandes will leave from #Sporting to #ManchesterUnited.

“For him is ready a contract by €6M plus bonuses a year. #transfers #MUFF #mutd.”

Tottenham could do with another midfielder this summer

Spurs need to land another midfielder this summer and losing Fernandes is a bit of a blow.

The Portuguese is versatile enough to play in the frontline as well and would have provided Mauricio Pochettino with a lot of options to choose from.

Christian Eriksen is out of a contract at the end of next season, and it will be interesting to see what happens with the Dane in the transfer window.

Spurs need to find a quality replacement for the Dane should he decide to leave, and we have less than a week to finalise all our transfer dealings.

Tanguy Ndombele and Jack Clarke have been the only two signings this summer while we have allowed several players to leave as well.
