Spurs transfer news: Tottenham agree on a £55m deal for Lo Celso

The Daily Record (h/t Mirror) claims that Tottenham have agreed on a £55million deal to land Giovani Lo Celso.

The Argentine has been linked with Spurs throughout the summer and became their top target in recent weeks (h/t Mirror).

The 23-year-old was great for Real Betis last season and featured for Argentina in the Copa America.

Lo Celso initially joined Betis from Paris Saint-Germain on loan before making the move permanent in the summer.

The report adds that Tottenham will pay £47.5m for the Argentine and an additional £7.3m would be paid out as add-ons and incentives.

Lo Celso could be our second big signing of the summer after we landed Lyon’s Tanguy Ndombele. Jack Clarke also joined Spurs this summer but was sent back to Leeds United on a season-long loan.

A replacement for Eriksen

Christian Eriksen is out of a contract at the end of the upcoming season, and the report claims that Spurs see Lo Celso as a long-term replacement for the Dane.

The 27-year-old spoke about taking up a new challenge after the Champions League final loss, and it will be interesting to see if he makes a move in the summer.

Lo Celso isn’t the only attacking midfielder Spurs have been linked with in recent weeks, with Sporting’s Bruno Fernandes also a target (h/t Mirror).
