Spurs transfer news: Man United scuppered Tottenham’s deal to land Dybala

Tottenham had a great transfer window when compared to some of our rivals.

Spurs had not signed a player in over 18 months but nabbed four during the summer, with three of them set to feature in the first-team soon.

Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Ryan Sessegnon are quality additions to the side while Jack Clarke will develop further at Leeds United for a season.

However, Spurs missed out on landing Juventus star Paulo Dybala, and the Telegraph (h/t Sun) claims that Manchester United played a role in the deal failing.

United’s sale causes problems for Spurs

The report claims that Romelu Lukaku joining Inter Milan let to Juventus’ reluctance in letting Dybala leave.

The 25-year-old Argentine had struggled in the previous campaign and had scored just five goals. However, he could have been better for us under the guidance of fellow Argentine Mauricio Pochettino.

Paulo Dybala

The deal to sell Lukaku does leave United a little light on quality attackers while we have Harry Kane back to full fitness after a proper summer break.

Dybala could have provided Kane some competition in leading the line, and it will be interesting to see who replaces the Englishman should he need a rest.

Spurs should still be pleased with the business conducted during the summer, and we should be aiming for silverware this season.
