Latest Spurs news: Tottenham can recall Clarke but only in January

Jack Clarke is one of the most exciting players in the Championship, and it was a fantastic bit of business to sign him from Leeds in the summer.

The 18-year-old was sent back to the Championship side in hopes of getting regular games but that hasn’t happened this season.

Marcelo Bielsa has a problem as EFL rules allow only five on-loan players in a matchday squad. He has six players to field.

Clarke hasn’t played in the Championship this season and has been limited to cup appearances. Alasdair Gold claimed that Spurs have a recall option in the youngster’s contract but that could be activated in the winter window.

The Tottenham correspondent was participating in a Q+A session and provided more details regarding the winger and claimed that a decision needed to be taken regarding his time with Leeds (h/t Football.london):

“As for Jack Clarke, Spurs do have a recall clause for January and it will depend on how much he plays in the coming months. Leeds have an issue with having six loan players and EFL rules only allowing five in a matchday squad.”

However, Gold added that Mauricio Pochettino doesn’t believe that Clarke is ready for Premier League football:

“Pochettino does not believe he’s ready for the Premier League just yet and if he’s not getting in Bielsa’s team either then that would seem a fair assessment so perhaps another loan move would be the best outcome.”

Tough decision for Spurs

Keeping C larke under Bielsa would be the best outcome but only if he gets consistent starts.

The youngster has to play regularly and if the scenario doesn’t change in January, another loan deal could be on the cards.

Tottenham have a quality player in their hands who just needs to play a lot of football. Hopefully, he gets that this season and features for our senior team in the near future.
