Marcelo Bielsa hints at lack of game time for Jack Clarke this weekend
Jack Clarke’s return to Leeds United on loan hasn’t gone well after signing for Tottenham. The 18-year-old would have expected to start games regularly after an impressive campaign last time around.
However, the youngster has failed to play a single minute of Championship football due to the EFL’s loan rules.
The rules state that only five loan players can be named in a matchday squad while Leeds have six loanees available.
Ben White, Jack Harrison and Ilan Meslier are important to Leeds, according to Football.london, while Helder Costa and Eddie Nketiah are the other loanees in the side.
Marcelo Bielsa had claimed that Clarke is an important member of the side and could feature later in the season, but the Argentine suggested that the Tottenham youngster might not feature against Charlton on Saturday.
Pablo Hernandez is injured ahead of the game, and Bielsa confirmed that Costa would play against Charlton (h/t Football.london):
“Helder Costa will play.
“He is ready, he is prepared. I cannot say I am happy because people will say I’m happy Pablo [Hernandez] cannot play!”
No room for Clarke?
Football.london adds that Leeds would feature three loan stars in the XI should Costa start, while Meslier and Nketiah would feature on the bench like they have all season.
Bielsa would be unable to name Clarke in the squad as they would have five loan players in the team.
Tottenham need Clarke to pick up first-team minutes regularly, and they should consider recalling him in January if things don’t improve.
