Darren Bent claims Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t trust Jack Clarke
Jack Clarke’s return to Leeds United hasn’t gone well for the 18-year-old.
The Englishman signed for Tottenham in the summer and was sent back to Leeds on loan.
Clarke made 25 appearances for Leeds last season but hasn’t featured in any of their Championship games this time around.
Leeds have been handicapped by EFL rules which state that a matchday squad cannot have more than five loan players. However, former Tottenham striker Darren Bent told Football Insider that something else might be up (h/t Football.london):
“With Bielsa, if you look at Bielsa’s teams, he needs to be able to trust you. If he doesn’t trust you, like at the minute a bit with Jack Clarke, I think Bielsa feels he can’t trust him.
“I’m sure everyone thought, and I’m sure he would have thought: ‘Right, I’ve got my move to Tottenham, I’m guaranteed now a starting role in the team.’ Maybe he want back there with the wrong attitude.”
Bent added that Clarke’s situation had surprised him as he expected the youngster to “kick on” this season.
Clarke has to play games
It is difficult to understand why Clarke hasn’t featured for Leeds in the League as he is one of the most exciting players in England.
The youngster broke into the senior side last season but mostly came on as a sub. The 18-year-old needs to start games for his development, and hopefully, his situation changes in the coming months.
The January window could be crucial as he could move to another club for more game time.
Should Tottenham decide to send him out on loan again, they must include a clause which guarantees him first-team starts.
