Alasdair Gold claims Tottenham could move for a right-back in January

Football.london’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold took part in his regular Q+A session regarding the club.

The journalist answered several queries about the club, especially related to the 7-2 hammering we received from Bayern Munich.

There were several poor performers on that day and apart from the first 30 minutes, there wasn’t much for us to celebrate.

Serge Aurier

Serge Aurier also struggled against Serge Gnabry in midweek, and one fan asked if Tottenham would move for a new right-back in January. Gold claimed that Spurs could be forced to move given the current condition of the players (h/t Football.london):

“Aurier wanted to leave and has been a disaster in recent weeks. Pochettino clearly doesn’t trust Walker-Peters enough and Juan Foyth is only just coming back.

“If Foyth or Walker-Peters does get a chance and makes the spot their own in the weeks ahead, Pochettino might decide he’s got enough but the fact that he referred to the right-back situation the other day as something along the lines of the same problem he had in the first day he walked into the job, it doesn’t bode well.”

Gold added that if Aurier wasn’t performing, he should be sold and moves would have to be made in January.

Tottenham will have to be smart in January

Spurs would have to move for another right-back in January if we sell Aurier. The winter window isn’t the ideal time to make signings, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the coming months.

Juan Foyth could be the solution to our right-back problems but the Argentine hasn’t played a minute of this season due to an injury. Kyle Walker-Peters has also had hamstring problems and Aurier could continue in the spot should neither of them regain fitness for this weekend’s clash.

Tottenham made some big moves in the summer but we haven’t seen all of the new boys in action.

Ryan Sessegnon is still injured while Giovani Lo Celso has been out of action since the last international break.
