Tottenham fans react as Bruno Fernandes signs new deal with Sporting Lisbon

Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes has signed a new deal with Sporting Lisbon.

The 25-year-old was linked with a move to Tottenham in the summer, and the Sun claims we came close to nabbing him too.

Manchester United were also keen on the midfielder, and it the report claims that he is a target for Spurs.

However, landing him would be tougher now given that Sporting won’t let him leave for less than £85million (h/t Sun).

The Portuguese star has been in excellent form over the past two years. He even helped the national team win the first Nations League title too.

Fernandes scoring goals for fun

The midfielder can play in several positions and is a regular on the scoring charts.

The 25-year-old has eight goals and six assists to his name for Sporting this season. He was even more prolific in the previous campaign notching up 20 goals and 13 assists in the league.

Fernandes also scored in Portugal’s 2-0 over Luxembourg recently and it will be interesting to see if he is on the move in the coming months.

Tottenham could do with another goal-scoring midfielder but Dele Alli seems to be doing well under Jose Mourinho.

The Englishman was great in the win over West Ham United and found the back of the net against Olympiakos too.

Fernandes could add more goals to the team, however, many fans believed the new deal was the end of our interest in the midfielder:

Christian Eriksen to join Inter Milan for £16.7 million

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen looks all set to move to Inter Milan after the club accepted the Italian giants’ £16.7 million offer for the player. (h/t Guardian)

Eriksen’s future had been uncertain for the longest time but the report adds that he will fly to Milan for his medical early next week.

Although losing him does leave a bitter taste, it is great that we have managed to acquire a considerable fee. Eriksen has been a mainstay in our midfield since 2013 and will leave behind a legacy as one of the club’s best players in the Premier League era.

According to the report, the Danish international has accepted a four-and-a-half-year contract worth a basic £260,000-a-week wage structure that could potentially rise to £320,000 with add-ons.

The End and the Beginning

Eriksen was part of what was arguably Tottenham’s best Premier League team. He played a crucial role in the midfield and in many ways, the Champions League final loss to Liverpool was the last hurrah. Jose Mourinho now has an opportunity to rebuild a side that seems to have run out of inspiration.

However, Tottenham have done well to orchestrate a deal now instead of losing the player for free in the summer. The 27-year-old’s departure will provide the likes of Giovani Lo Celso and Gedson Fernandes with more opportunities to express.

Eriksen has made 304 appearances and scored 69 goals in six-and-a-half seasons at Tottenham. He was part of the squads that finished second in the Football League Cup in 2015 and UEFA Champions League in 2019.

He is a two-time Tottenham Hotspur Player of the Year winner, having won the awards in 2013-14 and 2016-17. He was also nominated to the PFA Team of the Year for 2017-18.

Twitter reacts to Giovani Lo Celso’s performance against Southampton

In another murky performance by Tottenham, the lone figure of Giovani Lo Celso shone bright. A frustrating night for Tottenham ensued as a spirited Southampton side fought back from a goal down to send the tie into a replay.

Spurs looked to have done enough only for Sofiane Boufal to equalize for the Saints in the 87th minute. The tie will now be played on 5th February at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Unfortunately for Spurs, it disrupts the club’s plans for a winter break from 2nd-15th February.

In a largely average display, Giovani Lo Celso stood head and shoulders above the rest and provided a promising display that has been some time in the making.

It is symbolic that the Argentine chose to showcase his talent on the day Tottenham accepted Inter Milan’s bid for Christian Eriksen (h/t BBC).

The highlight of the game has to be Lo Celso’s surging run to set up Son Heung-Min’s opener. The 23-year old drove forward from the midfield and dodged five Southampton players before squaring the ball to Son, who finished at the far corner.

The Argentine pulled another one out of the hat as he lobbed a delicious ball to Son soon after. However, the South Korean could only smash the ball over.

Tottenham fans were encouraged by Lo Celso’s showing and took to Twitter to lavish praises on the Argentine international.

The 21-year-old surprised everyone with his decision to swap La Masia for Dinamo Zagreb in 2014. He has since thrived in Croatia, making 124 appearances scoring 34 goals. (h/t Whoscored)

Primarily a central attacking midfielder, Olmo is also capable of playing on either flank and also as a forward if necessary. His versatility will be a huge addition to a Spurs side seeking both dynamism and inspiration.

The youngster has been in good form this season with 8 goals and 7 assists in 22 games. His performances have seen him win the awards for best player and best young player in the Croatian First Division.

The midfielder is likely to prefer a move to Barcelona and Spurs will do well to secure the player given his demand.

Inter Milan make new €15 million bid for Christian Eriksen

Italian giants Inter Milan are set to increase their bid for Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen. (h/t Guardian)

Inter have already had an earlier bid of €10m plus add-ons rejected last week. The Italians are now set to increase their bid to €15m plus add ons.

Antonio Conte is keen on signing Eriksen to bolster his side’s bid for a first Serie A title since 2009 (h/t Guardian). The club are believed to have already agreed on personal terms with the 27-year-old Danish star.

Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen, who has been the lynchpin of the Spurs midfield, looks a forlorn figure intent on leaving the club this month.

The Dane, who joined us in the summer of 2013, has gone on to 304 appearances in his time here. He has contributed to us regularly qualifying for the Champions League and also to the run to the final in 2019.

The fee mentioned above is a steal for someone of Eriksen’s quality. With the midfielder’s contract expiring this summer, Spurs would do well to sell him in the January transfer window than lose him for a free in the summer.

Inter seem keen on reinforcing their team using Premiership based players as they look to overtake Juventus in Serie A.

The 27-year-old has given Spurs years of brilliance and has earnt the right to look for a new challenge elsewhere.

Given his contribution to Tottenham’s rise as a formidable force in the 2010s, we hope he gets us top dollar this January that can aid in Mourinho’s rebuild.
