Jose Mourinho keen on Christian Eriksen replacement during January window
Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is looking for a new attacking midfielder as Christian Eriksen will leave the club, according to the Telegraph (h/t Sun).
The manager wanted to hold talks with the Dane over a new deal but Eriksen has decided to leave Spurs (h/t Sun).
The Dane is a free agent in the summer but can negotiate a contract with foreign clubs in the winter window.
Spurs might let the 27-year-old leave in Jan to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer (h/t Sun).
Mourinho wants to make a move in the winter window but might have to sell a few players before bringing someone in (h/t Sun).
The manager is also looking for a backup to Harry Kane and a centre-back (h/t Sun). Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld are free agents in the summer too.
Eriksen struggling this season
The Dane wasn’t having a great time under Mauricio Pochettino and struggled for consistency since the tail-end of the previous campaign.
Eriksen played 60 minutes in the 4-2 win over Olympiakos but didn’t come on against Bournemouth.
Mourinho seems to be doing fine with our attack though. We have scored 10 goals in his three games in charge, but the problem has been the defence.
Spurs have conceded two goals in every game, and hopefully, that can be addressed in the coming weeks.
