Spurs fans took to Twitter to react to Toby Alderweireld’s new contract

Belgian international Toby Alderweireld has signed a new contract today, extending his stay with Tottenham Hotspur until 2023 (h/t Tottenhamhotspur.com).

The defender, whose contract was supposed to run out in the summer, has signed a new contract that effectively triples his wages from £50,000 to £150,000-per-week (h/t Daily Mail).

Manager Jose Mourinho considers Alderweireld to be an influential player in the team and will be delighted to have retained his services. In fact, the manager played a huge role in convincing Alderweireld to stay, despite heavy interest from rivals Manchester United (h/t Daily Mail).

The Belgian has been at the club since 2015 and has made 179 appearances in a Tottenham shirt.

Spurs’ rebuild under Mourinho has clearly begun. To that end, retaining the services of one of our stalwart veterans is just the beginning.
