Mourinho keen on reuniting with Raphael Varane at Tottenham
Mourinho’s teams are built from the back and are renowned to have defensive stability that isn’t easily breached. Hence, it is worrying that Tottenham have had one of the worst defences since the Portuguese took over (h/t Daily Mail).
Varane was one of Mourinho’s best signings at Real Madrid and quickly went on to showcase his ability. He was impressive when called upon as Madrid overcame Pep Guardiola’s Barcelona juggernaut to win their first La Liga title in four years.
The 26-year-old Frenchman’s gradually formed a solid partnership with Sergio Ramos at the heart of the Madrid defence. His impressive performances led to Mourinho trying to sign him while at Manchester United – only to have his efforts rebuffed. (h/t Metro)
With Jan Vertonghen’s contract expiring in the summer, Danny Rose out of favour and the likes of Serge Aurier inconsistent, Mourinho has quite a job on to rebuild the defence. Since Toby Alderweireld has extended his contract, Varane would be a perfect foil to the Belgian.
