Harry Kane faces a lengthy lay off due to a hamstring injury

In a major blow for Tottenham, star striker Harry Kane could be set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after he limped off injured with a hamstring injury against Southampton on New Year’s Day (h/t Telegraph).

The striker is set for a second scan today which will determine the extent of the injury but hopefully, Kane won’t be out too long. (h/t Daily Mail)

The injury could not have come at a worse time as Tottenham try to assail Chelsea’s hold on the fourth spot.

With Kane out, Spurs lack a replacement as we prepare for a hectic January. Hence, Mourinho could be forced to play either Son Hueng-Min or Lucas Moura as makeshift forwards.

Highly-rated academy starlet Troy Parrott could also be set to make his debut as Mourinho will be forced to rotate his squad to keep energy levels up.

Veteran defender Jan Vertonghen has stated that although Kane is one of the best players in the league, Spurs have the squad to cope with the striker’s absence. (h/t Daily Mail)

‘Harry is very important for us, but we have the squad to cope.’

Tottenham play Middlesbrough in the FA Cup third round on Sunday before facing Premier League leaders Liverpool next weekend.

Then defeat to Southampton has put Spurs 5 points behind Chelsea in the race to fourth. We cannot risk losing any more points as we enter the second half of the season.

Mourinho may be forced to dip into the market for a striker if Kane’s injury is as bad as feared.
