Tottenham look to beat Southend United to goalkeeper Ted Smith
According to the Southend Echo (h/t Football London), Tottenham Hotspur are set to rival Southend United for goalkeeper Ted Smith.
The 24-year old is a free agent after being released by Southend last season. However, he has continued training with the club, who are now keen on re-signing him (h/t Football London).
Smith came through the youth ranks at Southend and has made 30 appearances for the Shrimpers.
Smith was on trial at Spurs at the beginning of the season. It now looks as if he has shown enough promise to warrant further interest.
Tottenham already have Hugo Lloris back from injury and Paulo Gazzaniga is an able deputy. Michel Vorm is also available in case of an emergency as he recovers from injury.
It is hard to see where exactly Smith fits into the Spurs squad, with the likes of youngsters Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin also at the club.
