Artem Dzyuba will be a free agent in the summer
Russian striker Artem Dyzuba has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur made an approach for his services in the January transfer window.
The 31-year-old, who captains the Russian national team, made the claim while speaking to Russian TV channel Russia 24. The veteran forward currently plays for reigning champions Zenit Saint Petersburg in the Russian Premier League.
As reported by Sport Express (h/t Sportwitness), the striker claimed to have received an offer from Spurs which was rejected by Zenit.
“When Harry Kane got injured, people contacted me about a move to Spurs. But Zenit refused the offer.”
The striker went on to state that he had conversations regarding the move but nothing materialized. Tottenham needed a striker following the injury to Harry Kane. The club eventually decided to sign Steven Bergwijn rather than a specialist striker.
Dyzuba has 13 goals and 11 assists in 26 appearances for Zenit this season. His contract with the Russian giants expires at the end of the season.
The 31-year old was a part of Russia’s 2018 World Cup squad. He scored thrice as the Russian made it all the way to the quarterfinals, where they lost to Croatia.
Dyzuba has scored 24 goals in 42 appearances for the Russian national side.
