Tottenham Hotspur close player recruitment department due to COVID-19

Tottenham Hotspur have shut down their player recruitment department due to the coronavirus crisis, reports the Daily Mail.

The pandemic, that has shook the world, has resulted in all major sporting events getting called off. The UK is currently under lockdown in order to tackle the spread of the virus.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy announced earlier this week that due to the crisis, all non-playing staff of the club took 20 percent pay cuts for April and May. Now, the club has effectively shut down its player recruitment department till things get return to normalcy (h/t Daily Mail).

The report states that the club’s transfer plans are unlikely to be hampered by this decision. Most of the transfer targets for the next window have already been locked in upon. Manager Jose Mourinho, Levy and chief scout Steve Hitchen will engage in discussions over the list of players that has been drawn up (h/t Daily Mail).

This development comes in the wake of fellow Premier League outfit Newcastle United shutting down all their recruitment operations earlier this week. Following in their footsteps, our club has also taken this decision to put all work within the recruitment on hold (h/t Daily Mail).

While there are no live matches going on, for the recruitment team to analyze, it is understood that there was still plenty of unwatched footage of the club’s potential summer transfer targets left (h/t Daily Mail).

The report also claims that most of Tottenham’s foreign recruitment consultants haven’t been furloughed.
