Tottenham Hotspur legend Jimmy Greaves hospitalized

Tottenham Hotspur’s all-time leading goalscorer Jimmy Greaves has been hospitalized with an unspecified illness, the club has confirmed on the official website. (h/t Football.london)

Greaves, who turned 80 years old in February, spent almost nine years at Tottenham, having signed for the club in 1961 from AC Milan. During his stint at the club, the striker plundered 266 goals in 381 appearances, becoming the all-time highest goal-getter for our club. He won two FA Cups and one European Cup Winners’ Cup with Spurs.

Greaves has been battling health issues for a while now. The 80-year-old suffered a severe stroke in 2015 which left him unable to speak and wheelchair-bound.

Tottenham issued a statement on the club’s website confirming that the 1966 World Cup winner had been taken to the hospital late Tuesday night. The statement read:

“We can confirm that our record goalscorer Jimmy Greaves is currently being treated in hospital. We are in touch with his family and will provide further updates in due course. Everybody at the Club sends their best wishes to Jimmy and his family.”

A statement on Greaves’ official Facebook page also confirmed the news, while also stating that an update on his condition and prognosis will be provided later on Wednesday.
