Kyle Walker-Peters reveals what Jose Mourinho told him upon loan move to Southampton

Tottenham youngster Kyle Walker-Peters has revealed what Jose Mourinho told him after he left the club to join Southampton on loan in January (h/t The Times).

Walker-Peters is an academy graduate of our club. The Englishman looked set for an increased role in the first-team after Kieran Trippier’s sale in the last summer. However, that would not be the case as injury prohibited him from playing much in the first-half of the campaign.

Following Jose Mourinho’s appointment, the 23-year-old featured just one time before being loaned out to Southampton in the January window.

Opening up on what the manager told him after his loan move deal was completed, Walker-Peters revealed that the Jose wanted him to play regularly and get game-time under his belt (h/t The Times).

“He said listen, Kyle, Tottenham is your home so you’re welcome to come back whenever you want. He said he just wants me to play, play, play. ‘Bang out as many games as you can.’”

Walker-Peters added that he was hoping to impress Mourinho by playing week in week out at Southampton (h/t The Times).

“If I do that, hopefully he’ll see me as a more experienced player and that’s all I want — a run of five, ten games where I can show what I can do. I feel, in my career, I’ve shown it in glimpses, but it’s always been one or two games, then I don’t play again.”
