Erik Lamela faces an uncertain future at Tottenham Hotspur

Football.london’s Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold believes the next three months will decide the future of Erik Lamela at the club.

Lamela signed for Tottenham back in 2013 and has had plenty of bright moments during his time a the club. However, injuries have meant that he has never been able to realize his potential to the fullest. In his 214 matches for Spurs, the Argentine has scored 33 goals from midfield and laid on 47 assists.

Injury issues have hampered the Argentine again this season. Lamela has started just 10 of our 29 Premier League matches in 2019/20. And ahead of the next campaign, the 28-year-old finds himself in a difficult position with regard to his future at the club.

The next three months critical for Erik Lamela

Jose Mourinho is keen on bringing his own players and build a team in his own image. And at 28, with still two years on his contract, Tottenham could fetch a sizeable transfer fee for Lamela, which can be reinvested in new players (h/t Football.london).

So, the next three months could be definitive in what happens with the Argentine in the transfer window. Mourinho has praised Lamela’s attitude before, but he will need to step up and perform at his best level to convince the management that he has a future at the club. Failing to do so might force the club to move him on in the summer window (h/t Football.london).

Tottenham supporters took to Twitter to react on Lamela’s future and expressed their views on whether he should be retained by the club in the summer.
