Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho keen on Leicester City’s Ben Chilwell
According to a report from Foot Mercato (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho has identified Leicester City star Ben Chilwell as a key transfer target ahead of the transfer window.
Chilwell, 23, is a product of the Foxes’ academy and has grown into one of the top full-backs in England in the past couple of years. An important member of the Leicester side as well as the England national team, Chilwell has featured 28 times this season, scoring two goals and assisting four more.
The England international’s performances haven’t gone unnoticed as the likes of Chelsea are interested in signing him. And now, Tottenham too are reported to have joined the hunt for Chilwell next summer. (h/t Football.london)
The 2019/20 campaign has been a disappointing one for our club. Defensive lapses have been a recurring theme of Tottenham’s performances this season. Hence, there is an urgent need of reinforcements to the backline before the next season comes along.
That would leave Ben Davies as the only senior left-back within the squad as Mourinho has preferred to use Ryan Sessegnon in a more attacking role on the left flank.

Chilwell, to that end, would be an ideal target for our club. However, Leicester are uninterested in selling one of their most consistent performers this season. However, even if they do consider a sale, the 23-year-old is likely to command a transfer fee of £60m.
That would certainly pose a problem for Tottenham as we are expected to be operating on a limited budget this summer. Moreover, the potential lack of Champions League football could prove to be a stumbling block.
