Tottenham Hotspur to battle Liverpool for Nicolo Zaniolo
According to Football Italia (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur are set to face competition from Liverpool in the race for Roma star Nicolo Zaniolo.
The 20-year-old has seen his reputation rise since moving to the Stadio Olimpico in 2018. Zaniolo has made 60 appearances while scoring 12 goals and assisting five. He is also the youngest Italian to score a brace in the UEFA Champions League. (h/t BBC)
With the Italian giants in debt, they will have no other choice but sell their best assets in the coming window. With Roma in danger of missing out on the Champions League next season, their financial troubles are not likely to ease off.
Zaniolo was valued at £71million by Roma. However, the coronavirus crisis has seen his value drop. This has invited interest from Liverpool. After proving to be difficult competitors on the pitch, they are proving to be the same off it.
According to a number of Italian sources (h/t The Sun), the Merseysiders are keeping tabs on the player’s situation. Zaniolo is also drawing interest from Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain.
The Italian is one of the best youngsters in the game today. At just 20, he already has the experience of playing in both the Serie A and UEFA Champions League.
Zaniolo would be an exciting long-term addition to the Tottenham squad. We already have the likes of Erik Lamela, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane. The recent addition of Giovani Lo Celso and Steven Bergwijn has further enhanced our attacking prowess.
The 20-year-old would be an exciting signing who can complement the offensive talent already at the club.
