Harry Redknapp believes Tottenham Hotspur are close to success

Speaking to talkSport (h/t Football.london), former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp believes the club is just one or two signings away from being title challengers.

Having made it to the Champions League final last season, Spurs have failed to build on that success. We are currently 8th in the Premier League and are at risk of missing out entirely on Europe’s premier competition next season.

A loss of form and injuries at key junctures have played havoc with our aspirations. With Jose Mourinho now having a full-strength squad at his disposal, there is now real hope among the supporters.

Redknapp believes that the team is not that far off from the top. He also praised the facilities at the club’s disposal.

“The stadium is unbelievable and the training ground is fantastic, so it’s all in place.”

The former boss believes the club has a number of stars such as Dele Alli and Harry Kane. He has now called on owner Joe Lewis to splash the cash to add further quality.

“Push the boat out, it’s not like they’re short of money.”

Calling Lewis as one of the richest men in the world, Redknapp has urged him to invest in order to turn Spurs into title contenders.

Mourinho has a fully fit squad

Although Redknapp means well, his remarks do seem to be ignoring the current crisis. The club still has to repay the stadium debt not to mention outstanding transfer fee. It does seem very likely that Mourinho will have to depend on smart recruitment than splashing the cash.

Lewis is someone who has run a tight ship at Tottenham. It is difficult to imagine him change now, in the midst of a financial crisis. The same was intimated by reliable journalist Alasdair Gold earlier this week.

When fit, Tottenham do have an excellent squad capable of competing against the best. The first thing on Mourinho’s agenda should be to do what Redknapp achieved 10 years ago – qualify for the Champions League.
