Twitter reacts as Bruno Fernandes admits Tottenham Hotspur missed an opportunity to sign him
Speaking on Instagram live (h/t Metro), Portuguese sensation Bruno Fernandes snubbed interest from Tottenham Hotspur to complete his dream move to Manchester United.
Things could have turned out very differently had Mauricio Pochettino signed the Portuguese in summer of 2019. Spurs also held extensive talks with Sporting over his signature.
“The first club that was close to signing me was Tottenham”
However, the deal fell through and he ended up staying in Portugal. He is unsure if we went back for him in January, but our indecisiveness was enough for United to make their move.
As admitted by the player, we were the closest to signing him last summer. Sporting Lisbon were holding out for £75million. Having already signed Tanguy Ndombele for a club-record deal, this would have seen us break the milestone for the second time in the same summer.
Unlike Ndombele, Fernandes has transitioned seamlessly to the Premier League. The club let another player slip through their fingers invoking yet another scenario of what could have been.
Twitter was awash with reactions from fans. We take a look at a few of them below.
Twitter reacts to Bruno Fernandes admission
Never been more gutted about not signing a player we was linked with especially as Eriksen made it clear he wanted to leave would have been perfect replacement and possibly even better for us.

Sporting were asking silly money then. Utd paid a good price

I’d have Lo Celso over Fernandes any day

couldn’t move Eriksen on in the summer, so there wasn’t enough foreign spots to get Lo Celso Ndombele Bruno AND eriksen

Poch wanted them both, Levy wouldn’t splash the cash…Another example of Levy holding is back then pointing the finger at the coach for the team not performing!

I know for a fact spurs where looking at Lo Celso and Fernandes for a certain profile. I don’t know if they ever where Interested in both.
Most likely is, they chose Lo Celso over him

I bet we would have signed him if Eriksen had left. Can’t be anything else that held us back
