Ben Davies claims players have put fears over Premier League restart behind

Speaking on the Elis James Feast Of Football podcast (h/t BBC), Tottenham star Ben Davies has claimed that he and his teammates have put their fears of the coronavirus behind as the Premier League closes in on a restart.

Football in the UK has been suspended since March because of the virus outbreak. However, the Project Restart in the Premier League has been going ahead in full flow over the past few weeks.

The 2019/20 campaign is penned to restart on June 17th, with Tottenham scheduled to play their first game on 19th, against Manchester United.

There had been fears among several players over the restart as it brought the risk of spreading the virus to their families. Tottenham star Danny Rose, who is currently on loan at Newcastle United, was one of the loudest voices against the proposed restart.

However, Davies has revealed that any fears that were there among his teammates have eased off gradually. (h/t BBC)

“Honestly, no, not in our team. We have trained for a couple of weeks now. We are still doing everything right – we are still not allowed in the building unless it’s for gym [and then] everything is separate – everything is wiped down. But everybody feels ready now.”

Davies also added that with the team back in full-contact training, they were relishing to get back into competitive action. (h/t BBC)

Tottenham are currently eighth in the Premier League table, seven points adrift of Chelsea in fourth. With nine matches remaining, there is no margin for error if we want to finish in the top four.

And Davies, who has had a stop-start campaign due to injuries, must step up in the final run-in.
