Tottenham to battle Chelsea in pursuit of Gerson
The 22-year-old Flamengo midfielder failed to make much of an impact during his previous stint in Europe with AS Roma and Fiorentna. But since returning to Brazil with Flamengo, Gerson’s stock is on the rise. He played a key role in the club’s Copa Libertadores success last season.
Tottenham’s interest in the midfielder had been confirmed by his father a while ago, who also claimed Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund were also keen on him. (h/t Daily Mail)
Reports even claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was ready to sanction a £16m move for the Brazilian midfield ace. And now, Chelsea have also joined Tottenham in pursuit of the 23-year-old. (h/t Express)
Chelsea have been making quite the wave in the transfer market already. Having secured the transfer of Hakim Ziyech, they are also inching close to the signing of Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. Now, they also have their sights on acquiring the services of Gerson. (h/t Express)
While Tottenham have no pressing need of a new central midfielder at the moment, Gerson’s dynamism and energy could come in very handy for us. The 23-year-old is a powerhouse of a midfielder and would add more depth and quality to the ranks, while also acting as a long-term replacement for Moussa Sissoko who is not getting any younger.
