Wolves join Tottenham in pursuit of Reims defender Axel Disasi

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Wolves have joined Tottenham and Arsenal in the race to sign Stade Reims defender Axel Disasi in the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old Disasi came through the youth ranks at Paris FC before joining Reims in 2016. Till date, he has made 52 first-team appearances for the club, 32 of which have come in the 2019/20 campaign. The youngster played a key role helping the club qualify for the Champions League next season.

Primarily a centre-back, Disasi can play as a full-back on both right and left sides. The Frenchman’s contract with Reims expires next year. This has seen him attract a lot of interest from Premier League clubs, with Tottenham among his suitors. (h/t Daily Mail)

It is no secret that Tottenham are in need of defensive reinforcements having struggled immensely at the back this season. In addition, Jan Vertonghen’s contract is on the verge of expiry, and the Belgian is poised to leave the club.

This warrants the addition of a new centre-back in the summer. And Disasi, given his performances this season, coupled with the relatively cheap price tag of £13m makes him an attractive prospect.

However, in addition to the likes of Arsenal and Southampton, we will now also have to battle with Wolves for his signing. (h/t Daily Mail)

The lure of playing under one of the most accomplished managers as Jose Mourinho should tilt the balances in our favour, although Wolves are currently better-placed than us in the race for European football, which might act as a deterrent.

Given the existing financial circumstances, it will be interesting to see how the club goes about business in the transfer market once the window opens.
