Tottenham, Manchester United in the race to sign Pervis Estupinan

According to a report from AS via Sport Witness (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur will battle Manchester United in the race to sign Watford full-back Pervis Estupinan, who is currently out on loan at La Liga side Osasuna.

The 22-year-old Estupinan started out at LDU Quito back in his homeland Ecuador, before moving to Udinese in 2016. Soon after he had a loan spell at Granada, before he moved to Watford in 2017. However, he has never played for the Hornets till date.

Instead, he has been farmed out on loan to various Spanish clubs like Almeria, Mallorca, before he signed for Osasuna last summer. The Ecuadorian has impressed during his time at the club, producing a return of one goal and five assists in 30 matches in all competitions.

This has seemingly drawn our club’s attention towards Estupinan, who also has one international cap for Ecuador. However, we will have to stave off competition from rivals Manchester United in order to sign the 22-year-old. (h/t Football.london)

Tottenham will need a left-back next summer as the club are ready to offload Danny Rose permanently, after having loaned him out in January. Ryan Sessegnon has been used in an attacking role by Jose Mourinho, meaning we would be left with just Ben Davies as the proper left-back in the squad.

Jan Vertonghen had been able to fill in this season, but the Belgian too is on his way out of the club with his contract expiring. Hence, signing a new left-back could be an important subject on Mourinho’s agenda ahead of the summer transfer window.

We do have 18-year-old Dennis Cirkin coming through the club’s youth ranks. But a more experienced individual might be a better option at the moment. Estupinan, to that end, represents a decent option. The 22-year-old has impressed on loan at Osasuna. Given his age, should improve under the guidance of someone like Mourinho.

However, we will have to face competition from Manchester United as well as the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid for the Ecuadorian’s signing. (h/t Football.london)
