Tottenham, Newcastle to battle for AS Roma’s Pau Lopez
Lopez, 25, is a familiar figure at Tottenham, having spent the 2016/17 season on loan at the club from Espanyol. However, the Spaniard failed to make a single appearance during the time, as he was behind Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm in the pecking order.
After returning to Espanyol, Lopez impressed in the 2017/18 term, earning himself a transfer to Real Betis. A year later, he was snapped up by Roma in a £21m transfer. The 25-year-old has done well in his debut season in Italy so far. In 34 appearances across all competitions, the 25-year-old has managed to keep nine clean sheets.
Tottenham, of late, are being linked with a number of goalkeepers. From Lille’s Mike Maignan to Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, who is thriving on loan at Sheffield United, a lot of names have been thrown around. And Lopez, too, is among the shot-stoppers being linked with us. (h/t Football.london)
With Hugo Lloris not getting any younger and Paulo Gazzaniga not impressing very much, it is time for the club to bring in a new long-term replacement for the Frenchman. Lopez, to that end, would be a viable option for Spurs to consider. Since his loan spell at our club, the Spaniard has gathered a lot of experience and has proven himself both in Spain and Italy.
However, Newcastle United are also interested in signing the 25-year-old. The Magpies, set to be backed by their new owners once the takeover goes through, are keen on strengthening their goalkeeping department with the addition of Lopez. Furthermore, Chelsea and West Ham are also keeping an eye on the Roma star. (h/t Football.london)

Lopez is valued at £35m by Roma. Given the current financial situation, Tottenham may not be able to splash so much money on a new goalkeeper. Especially, at a time when there are other positions that need to be strengthened.
Moreover, Lloris has rediscovered his form since the resumption of the campaign. So, the search for a new keeper may well be postponed to next year.
