Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho issues update on summer transfer plans

Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that the club does not need to strengthen much in the summer and will not be requiring huge investments in the transfer market. (h/t Football.london)

The upcoming transfer window will pose a difficult challenge for the club, with the finances taking a hit because of the coronavirus pandemic. Things will only worsen if we miss out on Champions League football, something that our chairman Daniel Levy had alluded to in the past. (h/t Football.london)

When asked about the situation, Mourinho said he accepts that things will not be favourable if the club misses out on Champions League. (h/t Football.london)

“A team that qualifies or doesn’t qualify for the Champions League, it makes a difference to their economical situation. That’s easy to understand and easy to accept.”

The Portuguese then went on to insist that the club does not need huge investment as only a few players are needed this summer. (h/t Football.london)

“The second good thing is that we don’t need much. We don’t need many players. We don’t need huge investment.”

Mourinho, maybe, is being a touch optimistic when he says that. The fact is that we need a top class striker to cover for Harry Kane, while we also need a new centre-half to replace the outgoing Jan Vertonghen.

One might argue that with Eric Dier moving into the backline, we can make do without a new central defender. But the fact remains that our defence has been too inconsistent and the club needs a proper leader at the back.

Moreover, Dier’s change in position means a new defensive midfielder is also needed. And we can’t ignore the lack of depth in both full-back positions. So, it will be interesting to see how the club goes about business in the transfer window.
