Jose Mourinho vows to win trophies at Tottenham during his time

As reported by the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho has insisted that he will lead the club to trophies during his time at the club.

Mourinho took over the reins at the club last November after Mauricio Pochettino was sacked. While there was an upturn of form early in his tenure, the team’s form has been pretty much on a nosedive since the turn of the year.

Tottenham have been unlucky with injuries and some poor officiating. But, in an overall sense, Mourinho just hasn’t shown enough during his time at the club so far. We are currently sitting ninth in the table and are certain to miss out on Champions League football. There is even a chance that the club will miss out on Europa League football as well.

So, naturally the mood around the club isn’t all too bright. Ahead of the weekend’s clash against Arsenal, Mourinho admitted that he and chairman Daniel Levy weren’t too happy with the current results. (h/t Football.london)

“Look, I think the message is very, very simple which is the supporters are not happy, nobody in this club is happy. If the fans are unhappy and I am happy, Mr Levy is happy, the captains are happy, then that would be a huge problem because our ambitions wouldn’t fit with the ambitions and desire of the fans.”

However, he then went on to add that he will be leading the team to trophies before his current three-year contract comes to an end. (h/t Daily Mail)

“I believe that in my three-year contract we can win trophies. I cannot believe that the season is going to be so full of negative episodes like we’ve had since practically day one. There are many reasons to believe that it is going to be different.”

Mourinho then went on to cite the example of newly-crowned Premier League champions Liverpool, claiming that it took four years for Jurgen Klopp to win trophies at Anfield. (h/t Daily Mail)

Tottenham last won a trophy in 2008 in the form of the League Cup. While there was great progress under Pochettino, the dearth of silverware continued. Hopefully, we will see that come to an end under Jose.
