Everton make second bid for Spurs target Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

As reported by the Daily Echo, Everton have launched a second bid to secure the services of Southampton midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is a top target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old Hojbjerg is in the final year of his current contract with Southampton and is set to leave in the summer. Tottenham has emerged as a potential destination for him, with Spurs’ boss Jose Mourinho intent on signing the Danish international.

Reports have even claimed that Hojbjerg, too, prefers a transfer to Tottenham Hotspur. However, that hasn’t dissuaded Everton from trying to sign up the midfielder. The Toffees made an £18m offer for the former Southampton skipper, which was rejected by the club. (h/t Daily Echo)

And now, Everton have come up with a second offer for Hojbjerg. The new offer is believed to be worth £20m, which is still some way off of Southampton’s £35m valuation. (h/t Daily Echo)

The report further goes on to add that Tottenham are nowhere close to matching the second offer made by Everton. However, Southampton will not let go of their former skipper on the cheap, even though he wants to join Tottenham. (h/t Daily Echo)

There had been speculations of Tottenham using Kyle Walker-Peters, who is currently on loan at Southampton, as a makeweight to bring the Saints’ asking price for Hojbjerg down. However, Southampton want to keep the two transfers separate, meaning Spurs will have to meet their full valuation for Hojbjerg.

An alternate report from the Evening Standard adds that Tottenham have 48 hours to increase their current offer, or Southampton will press ahead with negotiations with Everton.

Daniel Levy has made a reputation of being a tough negotiator. However, let’s hope his stance on Hojbjerg doesn’t end up botching our chances of signing him.
