Japhet Tanganga set to sign new long-term contract with Tottenham
According to a report from the Evening Standard, Tottenham academy ace Japhet Tanganga is set to sign a new long-term contract, following in the footsteps of Oliver Skipp and Eric Dier.
The 21-year-old Tanganga came through the youth ranks at Tottenham and made his first-team debut under Mauricio Pochettino in September last year. However, it was only after Jose Mourinho took over the reins that the youngster got an extended run in the first-team.
In fact, he became a regular presence in the backline under the Portuguese. Mourinho has used him as a centre-back as well as full-backs on either sides. Till date, he has made 11 first-team appearances for the club.
A back injury has meant he hasn’t been seen in action since the restart of the campaign last month. Although, the 21-year-old has recovered and had made the bench in our last three matches.
Tanganga’s current contract with Tottenham, which sees him earn £1000-a-week expires at the end of the 2020/21 season. However, there is good news on that front for Spurs’ fans as the 21-year-old is set to put pen to paper on a new deal. (h/t Evening Standard)
As per the report, the young defender will be penning a new four-year deal, extending his stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium till 2024. There will be a significant increase in his current wages as well.

This development comes on the back of Tottenham handing new contracts to Oliver Skipp and Eric Dier. Tanganga has been one of the positives to come out from what has been a mixed campaign so far. His contract extension will surely be a step in the right direction.
