Japhet Tanganga extends contract with Tottenham till 2025

Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga has signed a new contract with the club, extending his stay till the summer of 2025, the club revealed on the official website.

The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at Tottenham and made his first-team debut in September last year, under then-manager Mauiricio Pochettino in a Carabao Cup fixture.

However, it was under Jose Mourinho that the youngster became a regular member of the senior team. He finished the 2019/20 campaign with 11 first-team appearances, with an injury prohibiting him from taking the field following the restart of the term last month.

Tanganga’s contract was set to expire this year, before the club triggered a 12-month extension on his deal. And now, the young defender, who has done the job playing across the backline this season, has penned down a long-term extension with the club.

In a statement on the official website, Tottenham said:

“We are delighted to announce that Japhet Tanganga has signed a new contract with the Club which will run until 2025.”

It is a just reward for a player who has impressed in a very short time at the first-team level. Someone, who enjoys the backing of Mourinho, we will get to see plenty of him in the coming seasons.

Naturally, the news of Tanganga’s contract extension got the fans talking. And here are some of the reactions from the Tottenham supporters on the update.
