Fulham want to sign Ryan Sessegnon on loan

According to a report from The Telegraph, newly-promoted Premier League club Fulham are plotting a loan move for Tottenham Hotspur starlet Ryan Sessegnon in the ongoing transfer window.

The 20-year-old Sessegnon came through the youth ranks at Fulham. He was a key player in their promotion-winning campaign back in 2017/18. The youngster had a decent debut season in the Premier League even as the Cottagers got relegated back to the second division.

Sessegnon had done enough to earn himself a £25m switch to Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2019. However, his first season at the club has been a major letdown. There were a lot of expectations riding on the youngster when he joined Spurs. But injuries and fitness issues have meant he has hardly lived up to the billing.

Indeed, the England youth international ended the 2019/20 campaign with just 12 appearances across all competitions, scoring and assisting a solitary goal apiece. Sessegnon did not play a single minute of football post lockdown despite being fully fit, which has led to speculations over his future under Jose Mourinho.

And now, Fulham, who are back in the Premier League after defeating Brentford in the Playoff finals earlier this week, are keen on re-signing their academy product on a season-long loan deal. (h/t The Telegraph)

The report states that the 20-year-old is desperate to play regularly and may consider a switch. However, Tottenham are reluctant to let him leave this summer. (h/t The Telegraph)

With the future of Danny Rose up in the air, we will just have Ben Davies as the senior left-back in the squad. So, allowing Sessegnon to return to Fulham might not be the most prudent move. With Europa League football on offer, Sessegnon should get plenty of opportunities in the coming season.
