Report: Tottenham have shortlisted three players as replacement for £22m-rated star

Tottenham monitoring three players as replacement for Serge Aurier

According to Charlie Eccleshare of The Athletic, Tottenham Hotspur are keeping their eye on three potential targets as a replacement for current first-choice right-back Serge Aurier. The three players that are being monitored are Norwich City’s Max Aarons, Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne and Zeki Celik of Lille.

The 27-year-old Aurier has been linked with an exit from Tottenham for a while now. Serie A giants AC Milan are interested in signing the Ivory Coast international, with talks ongoing between the two clubs. However, the two parties are still some way apart from arriving at an agreement.

Irrespective of that, Tottenham are already planning for life without Aurier. And as per The Athletic, the club has identified three ideal candidates to take over from the former PSG man, who is valued at £22m.

The first name on the list is Norwich City’s Max Aarons. The Englishman had enjoyed a fine 2018/19 campaign in the Champioship, helping the Canaries to promotion. And while he failed to reach the same level in the recently concluded season, the 20-year-old did show glimpses of his immense potential.

Another player that the club are looking at is Atalanta’s Timothy Castagne. The Belgian international has impressed for the Serie A side during his three years at the club as they have steadily grown into a force to be reckoned with in Italy. The 24-year-old has previously expressed his desire to move to Tottenham as well, making him a viable option.

Finally, the third player that Spurs are considering, as per the report, is Lille’s Zeki Celik. The 23-year-old has spent almost the entirety of his career in Turkey, moving to France only a couple of years ago. He has shown great promise during his time at Lille and managed three assists in 23 Ligue 1 games in 2019/20.

Irrespective of whether Aurier stays or leaves, we need to strengthen our options at right-back. Any of the three players mentioned would be handy signings with scope for improvement. It remains to be seen who the club decides to bring in this summer.
