West Ham ready to listen to offers for Issa Diop

According to a report from Sky Sports, West Ham United are open to selling star defender Issa Diop in the ongoing transfer window, provided any suitor is able to meet their £45m valuation.

The 23-year-old Diop had been linked with a move to Tottenham recently and now the Hammers are willing to listen to offers for the Frenchman, as they look to boost their transfer funds. (h/t Sky Sports)

Diop joined West Ham from French club Toulouse in the summer of 2018. During his two years at the club, the centre-back has been one of their top performers, in spite of the club struggling.

Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho is a known admirer of the towering defender, having lavished praise on Diop, when the Portuguese was still in charge at Manchester United. And now, Spurs might be in with a chance to sign him, with West Ham open to let him leave. (h/t Sky Sports)

Our defence was all over the place in the season gone by. None of the central defenders at Mourinho’s disposal currently were solid or consistent enough. And with Jan Vertonghen leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract, a new centre-back is a must in the current transfer window.

And Diop could be a fine signing for the club. The 23-year-old has already cut his teeth in the Premier League and has shown he can be an asset to the team. However, the £45m valuation might prove to be problematic, with the club currently operating on a tight budget.

Tottenham have already completed two signings with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg signing from Southampton before Joe Hart arrived on a free transfer.

A new centre-back, a right-back and another striker should now be on the club’s agenda before the season starts next month.
