Leeds United to battle Tottenham for Robin Koch

According to The Sun, newly-promoted Premier League outfit Leeds United have entered the race to sign SC Freiburg defender Robin Koch, who is also a target for Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old Koch spent time at the youth academies of FC Kaiserslautern, SV Dorbach and Eintracht Trier before returning to Kaiserslautern in 2015. After spending two years at the club, he linked up with Freiburg in 2017 and has become a key member of the team ever since.

Koch has taken the field 87 times for Freiburg across all competitions so far, scoring five goals and setting up two more. A centre-back by trade, the 24-year-old can be used as a holding midfielder as well – a role in which he has excelled for his team on a number of occasions.

Koch is in the final year of his current contract with Freiburg. The Germans want to cash in on the defender now rather than lose him on for nothing at the end of the season. And Tottenham are among the clubs interested in securing the transfer of the 24-year-old. (h/t The Sun)

Having lost Jan Vertonghen at the end of the 2019/20 season, we are in need of reinforcements at the back heading into the new season. Koch, who can perform in two positions, would be a handy addition.

However, we will now have to face competition from Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United for the signing of the £20m-rated Koch. The report claims that the Whites are ready to pay Freiburg’s asking price for the two-time capped German international, after having failed in their attempt to sign Ben White. (h/t The Sun)

We have made a positive start to the transfer window, with the signings of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart. However, more work needs to be done in the market before the window shuts down.
