Tottenham face Newcastle United competition for Guillermo Maripan

According to Chilean publication CDF (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur will have to battle it out with fellow Premier League club Newcastle United for the transfer of AS Monaco’s Guillermo Maripan.

The 26-year-old started out at Chilean club CD Universidad Catolica and spent five years with the club’s senior team, before joining Spanish side Alaves in 2017. After two years at the club, he joined Monaco in the last summer window.

Maripan featured fairly regularly in his debut campaign in France. However, Monaco are looking to offload some of their players this summer, owing to the impact of the coronavirus on the pandemic. It is claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are long-term admirers of Maripan and with Monaco contemplating a sale, the club could make a pounce to land him this summer.

However, Tottenham are not the only club interested in signing the 24-time capped Chilean international, with Newcastle United eyeing a swoop as well. (h/t Football.london)

Having lost Jan Vertonghen upon the expiry of his contract last month, Tottenham are in desperate need of reinforcements at centre-back. And, Maripan has plenty of experience at the club level and the international level.

With Monaco considering a sale, he could be a viable option for us to consider to bolster our defensive ranks.

With the signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Joe Hart, the club has made a good start to the transfer window. We are also closing in on the capture of Matt Doherty from Wolves. A few more additions, and Jose Mourinho should be able to take us back to where we belong.
